Other Specialist Services

The Clinic deals with a wide range of sexual problems but there are a few issues which are not dealt with in the Sexual Problems Clinic.

These include:

  • Erectile Dysfunction (where the cause is likely to be physical)

Investigation and medical, physical and surgical treatments for erectile dysfunction (ED) are provided by a Specialist ED Clinic in the Urology Department at the Western General Hospital. Referral is from your GP.

  • Gender issues

Gender dysphoria and gender identity issues are dealt with separately in the Gender Clinic, which is also based at the Chalmers Centre. You need to see your GP and get referred by them. Click here for more information.

  • Compulsive sexual behaviour (sex addiction)

Sex addiction and porn addiction are generally seen as an addiction problem rather than a sexual problem and is treated with individual and group therapy in the same way as other addiction problems. For more information click here.

  • Sexual trauma

If you have suffered sexual assault or abuse it is important to seek psychological support for the traumatic impact this has had on you before attempting to deal with any sexual problems. Your GP can refer you for help with this.

  • Genital skin problems

There is a specialist clinic at the Chalmers Centre for dealing with genital skin problems and also a specialist gynaecological skin clinic at the Royal Infirmary. You need to see your GP and get referred to these clinics
