Appointments

We are offering initial appointments to people who were referred to us in 04/2023.

  • We are sorry that there is currently a long wait to see us for your first appointment.
  • We are now seeing patients for the first time that were first referred to us in the date shown.
  • You will be offered a virtual (phone or video) or face-to-face appointment

Please note the following if you have been referred to us:

  • We will write to acknowledge your referral
  • You must keep us updated about any changes to your address or phone numbers – we are not told by your GP
  • Once we are able to offer you an appointment we will write to you to ask if you would like to be seen
  • If you do not attend an initial appointment or follow up assessment, we may remove you from our list

Are your contact details up to date? Please let us know if your details change, especially your phone number. Call us on 0131 536 1507 to update us of any changes.

How will I get my appointment?

A letter asking you to phone and arrange an appointment will be sent when you are near the top of the waiting list. When your appointment is booked a confirmation text will be sent to you.

We will try to give you at least seven days notice of this appointment. Please consider your appointment carefully because if you refuse two reasonable offers of appointment, you may have to start your waiting time again. We may phone you at short notice to offer you a cancellation but there is no obligation to accept a short-notice appointment.

Please remember to tell us if you change your name, address or phone number to make sure we can contact you.

When you are given an appointment at the clinic, we ask that you prioritise it and that you only cancel due to sickness or extenuating circumstances. Please note that if you fail to attend or cancel at the last minute you may have to wait until we can offer another appointment.

What to Expect at your Appointment

At your first appointment we will take some time to find out what your problem is and how it is affecting you. We will want to discuss all the events and situations which are relevant to this and the first one or two appointments may take up to 45 minutes. After that the appointments may be shorter but this will depend on the concerns you have.

Is there anything I can do while I wait?

Any sexual difficulties can make us stressed and anxiety always makes problems worse so working on lifestyle changes that decrease your overall stress levels is a good idea.  Help for depression and anxiety can be sought here https://breathingspace.scot/living-life/

Sometimes sexual difficulties are mixed up in relationship difficulties and it can be hard to know which causes which. If you find it difficult to talk to your partner then relationship counselling can help you communicate better and will mean that you are in a good place to make the most of psychosexual therapy when you get an appointment. Organisations that offer relationship counselling can be found here.

While you’re waiting for an appointment, you may want to look at advice specific for your problem on other websites or in books, or contact a third sector or private organisation for help.
