WISHES support and empower women experiencing homelessness, using Recovery Hubs, involved in sex work, exiting the criminal justice system, leaving care and others. This is a service staffed by women. Please see below for information about the services we offer.
WISHES is a joint initiative between NHS Lothian’s Harm Reduction Team, Chalmers Centre and Sacro’s Another Way service.
We offer:
- Contraception (including coils, implants and free condoms)
- Cervical smears, pregnancy testing and abortion referral
- Full sexually transmitted infection testing
- HIV, Hep B, hep C screening and hep B immunisation
- Assessment of gynae problems, such as period pains
- Safer injecting advice, equipment and take home naloxone
- Time with SACRO’s Another Way service for help and advice on housing, benefits and employability
- Emotional, practical and social support
- Safety advice and personal alarms
- Onward referral to other services if required
- Outreach service for those involved in sex work (indoor and outdoor)
Service times:
The main WISHES Clinic is located at 22-24 Spittal Street EH3 9DU and is open from 2-7pm on Thursdays.
From 2pm-4:30pm access is via the main entrance on Spittal Street. Our doors close between 4:30pm and 5pm for a staff break, reopening 5pm-7pm with access via the side entrance on Lady Lawson Street. Drop in between these times to be seen by a member of the WISHES team. Free food and a hot drink is provided.
WISHES @ Chalmers – Thursday 2pm-4.30pm – A drop-in clinic for women. This service is gender inclusive.
WISHES @ Chalmers – Thursday 5pm – 7pm – A drop-in clinic for women whose sex at birth is female.
WISHES @ REH – an outreach clinic for inpatients at the Royal Ed, booke by REH staff.
West Lothian – members of our WISHES team also work out of Howden Health Centre and Whitburn Medical.
