Appointments & What to expect
We see a variety of people at the Chalmers GIC with different needs and goals in terms of gender and who are at different stages in their gender journey.
Each person is different, and treatment plans vary according to the individual’s needs and circumstances. However, here is what you might expect from appointments at the GIC.
What to expect from the Chalmers GIC
When reach the top of the waiting list you will be contacted via text and or letter and invited for a triage appointment via video appointment, this call is to welcome you to the clinic and help us gain important information about your gender identity, health, and goals for transition.
Your video appointment can be made from a smartphone, tablet or computer – almost any device that runs Google Chrome or Safari browsers. Have a look at our information sheet.
A few minutes before your video appointment log on to: https://nhsattend.vc/cgic
If we can’t see you logged on a few minutes after your appointment time, we will send you a reminder by text.
Following this you will be invited for your initial assessment, during this in-depth session the clinician will cover areas such as your gender identity, medical and mental health history, relationships, family dynamics/childhood, social situation, and work or education. The purpose of this appointment is to get a sense of you as a person; your background, current situation and plans for the future where gender is concerned. This detailed evaluation allows the clinician to create a personalised care plan with you.
Following your initial assessment, you will be invited for a number of follow-up appointments. How many follow-up appointment you have will be based on your needs and the parts of the gender service you end up accessing. This may be hormone treatment, surgery, or other services we can support you with. Follow-up appointments allow the clinicians to offer ongoing support, track changes in your physical, emotional, and social well-being, and adjust your care plan as needed. Each appointment is tailored to your evolving needs, ensuring you receive consistent, responsive care that adapts to your unique circumstances.
