DCoSRH training

Completing the diploma demonstrates the knowledge and skills to carry out effective contraception consultations as part of a comprehensive approach to SRH care.
Entry requirements
Registered with the relevant regulatory body (GMC or NMC etc)
Able to give both IM and SC injections and to perform a speculum exam
Resus and anaphylaxis training up to date in line with current UK guidelines
Assessments
You will complete an Independent Learning Portfolio using self-guided learning, topic investigations, case discussion and patient feedback
You’ll also be assessed for your ability to perform core clinical assessments in the clinical setting; this will involve attending 3 or 4 clinics working 1:1 with a Registered Trainer.
The Online Theory Assessment uses MCQs to assess your wider knowledge of SRH
The Assessment Half Day consists of written assessment questions covering reproductive physiology, anatomy … as well as applied knowledge in clinical scenarios. It also tests your clinical consultation skills and knowledge in clinical case scenarios.
Fees
The fee to apply for DCoSRH is £315 plus a £75 admin charge
this gives you access to a wide range of learning resources, the assessment framework, support from a FSRH registered trainer
You will have to pay separately for the Assessment Half Day which is run online by some centres and in person at other centres; fees vary as they are set locally.
The cost of your Diplomate Membership is £134 (2025 cost) paid to DFSRH.
There is also an ongoing annual fee to maintain your DFSRH.
Before you can apply to FSRH to commence training, you must get agreement for 1:1 support from a Faculty Registered Trainer in a General Training Programme. If you work within Edinburgh and the Lothians this will be by emailing the General Training Programme Director kate.weaver@nhs.scot . You won’t be able to sign on and pay your fees through FSRH until you have this agreement. This is important also, because once you commence your DFSRH training you have 2 years within which to complete it, so local waiting list times are important to be aware of.
Letter of Competence in Subdermal Implants; Insertion and Removal
Entry requirements
Registered with the relevant regulatory body (eg GMC or NMC)
Able to give IM injections and to perform a speculum exam
Resus and anaphylaxis training up to date in line with current UK guidelines
Up to date with elearning on Safeguarding children and young people up to level 3 and Safeguarding adults up to level 2.
Competent in consultation skills
Familiar with the CoSRH Guidance on subdermal implants
Hold an up to date CoSRH qualification
or
have passed the Online Theory Test (OTA) via CoSRH.org website. This confirms your broader SRH knowledge as a background to your Subdermal Implant procedures and consultations. See CoSRH.org

To take the OTA (Online Theory Assessment) exam – £88 (per attempt)
Letter of Competence registration fee – £118
Then to maintain your qualification you have a choice
Pay £114 for Associate membership annually (with benefits of access to FSRH Training Hub, events, Member evidence requests, access to the BMJ SRH online peer reviewed journal etc
Or
Non member rate of £490 to cover your LoC SDI IR for the next 5 years but without member benefits.
Clinical Training
Usually involves 3 to 4 clinical sessions at Chalmers Centre working 1:1
LoC IUT
Entry Requirements
Registered with relevant professional body (eg GMC or NMC)
- Have the experience and skill to conduct a competent clinical consultation.
- Be up-to-date with resuscitation and anaphylaxis training
- Be competent in giving an intramuscular injection.
- Have read the current CoSRH guidance on intrauterine contraception.
- Be up to date with Levels 1-3 safeguarding children and young people and Safeguarding adults to level 2.
- Be competent in undertaking a speculum examination.
- Hold up to date CoFSRH qualification or pass the OTA (online test of wider SRH knowledge)
Fees – see above – same for Implant training and for IUD training
Clinical Training
Usually involves 6 to 8 clinical sessions at Chalmers centre working 1:1 with a trainer
