In Clinic – ‘No-Talk’ Testing (NTT)

At the Chalmers Centre, we run a ‘No Talk’ STI testing service most weekdays. This is a testing clinic for people who have no signs or symptoms of an infection, who are at low risk of HIV and hepatitis and have no specific sexual health worries or concerns, but would like a routine sexual health check-up. The check-up includes tests for chlamydia, gonorrhea, HIV and syphilis.

Please note that in this clinic you will not be examined, health questions cannot be answered and you can’t have anything else done (e.g. pregnancy test, contraceptive pills, vaccinations etc.).
If you are 13-18 years old and would like to talk to someone about your sexual health, it may be more suitable to attend one of our Healthy Respect+ young peoples’ clinics. At the Chalmers Sexual Health Centre, this is a drop-in clinic and you can attend between: Monday to Thursday 3:30pm – 7pm and Fridays 1pm – 3:30pm. The No Talk Testing clinic is not suitable for everyone, so please look at the questions below and answer them going back to a month before your last check up. If you can answer ‘NO’ to all the questions then our No Talk Testing clinic is suitable for you.

If you answer ‘YES’ to any of the following questions, we DO NOT recommend you use the No Talk Testing clinic. It may be that we would like to offer additional tests or vaccinations or that you may benefit from talking to someone from our clinical team about your sexual health. Please call us or use our online booking service to book a telephone triage appointment, so we can advise you about which clinic would be most suitable for you.

No Talk Testing Self assessment

If you answer NO to all of these questions this clinic is suitable for you.

If you answer YES to any question, please contact us for advice on a more suitable option.

  • Are you aged 15 years old or under?
  • Do you have new symptoms of a sexually transmitted infection (e.g. recent onset of unusual discharge or bleeding, pain passing urine following sex without a condom, pain in the testicles, pain in the lower stomach, genital ulcers, etc)?
  • Have you had condomless sex with someone who you are aware has untreated HIV or hepatitis?
  • Are you a man who has had anal sex with a man without a condom since your last screen (and not on PREP)? Or a woman who has had sex with a man who has had condomless anal sex?
  • Have you been sexually assaulted (raped)?
  • Have you injected drugs yourself or had sex with someone who injects drugs?
  • Have you had condomless sex with someone from a country with high rates of HIV or viral hepatitis (if unsure, please check with a nurse)?
  • Have you given or received sex in exchange for money, drugs, or a place to stay?
  • Would you like to discuss any sexual and reproductive health concerns with someone from our clinical team?
  • Are you a man who has sex with men who:
  1. Has not attended Chalmers, ROAM or outreach services or another sexual health service for a full consultation before?
  2. Requires HPV and/or Hepatitis A and B vaccination?
  3. Requires advice about PEP or PREP?

If you answer NO to all of these questions this clinic is suitable for you.

Select: “STI testing – no symptoms” and then “Express (‘no talk’) testing”.

You will be asked a series of questions to make the booking.

If we have available appointments you will be given some options.

If we have no available appointments please check again in the morning the following day as we regularly release more appointments.

In the ‘No-Talk’ Testing clinic

You will see a healthcare support worker (HSW) who will take your tests. At the appointment you will:

  • Be asked to provide samples for chlamydia and gonorrhea ( this will be self taken swab/s or a urine test)
  • Be offered a blood sample from your arm to be tested for HIV and syphilis.
  • The clinical support worker will not be able to answer any health questions or offer any additional screening.
  • You can the phone for results using our automated phone line (0131 536 1050) after one week.
