Although we are not offering walk in services we are continuing to provide care for problems including abortion, painful or distressing symptoms, treatment of sexually transmitted infections and contraception. Please carefully read through the information on this page and the relevant pages of our website (including patient information leaflets under Media Library) before requesting a call back appointment.
If you feel you need to speak to us please request a call back appointment online (click here) or call us on 0131 536 1070 between 9am and 3pm Monday to Friday.
You will have the option to make a phone back appointment either for STI issues or issues around reproductive health. You will be contacted on the mobile phone number you provide at around the time booked.
Please ensure you answer the phone when it rings and are able to speak clearly about your concerns. You will have a phone discussion to decide what is the best way to help you. Please be aware we may not be able to provide treatment or care for non-urgent conditions at the moment.
All non-urgent services are suspended until further notice. Please check our website regularly for updates. If you have been referred by your GP, referrals with be prioritised and only urgent cases will be seen. All other referrals will be deferred until further notice.

STI Testing
All STI testing where people do not have any symptoms is currently cancelled, please keep checking our website for updates. If you have painful or distressing symptoms or are worried you may have been at risk of getting an STI then please contact us.

Abortion service
To self-refer to the abortion service phone 0131 536 2454 between 9am-3pm Monday to Friday. This service has no answer phone, please call back if it rings out (as staff will be on another call).
Alternatively, you can phone 0131 536 1070 between 10am and 12.30 and 1pm and 3pm Monday to Friday.

Contraception

Emergency contraception
If you have had unprotected sex and are worried you could be at risk of pregnancy then please see a pharmacist, speak to your GP or contact us to discuss your options. The availability of emergency contraception has not changed.
Starting, changing or stopping contraception
Although our services have significantly reduced, we are still able to provide advice about contraception over the phone. We may be able to provide supplies of contraception and help with problems related to contraception.
Continuing with your method of contraception
If you need more of your method of contraception then we may be able to arrange this for you.
If you currently have a coil (IUD or IUS) or an implant that is due to expire, or has expired, then you may still be able to rely on this for contraception.

GMC and ROAM
All routine sexual health testing where men do not have any symptoms is currently cancelled. This includes the Gay Men’s Clinic and all ROAM drop in testing services. However, you can now order a HIV self test online by visiting https://www.hivtest.scot/ or by calling HIV Scotland on 0131 5583713.
We still have support for urgent problems. If you are worried about any possible sexual health symptoms, think you may have been at risk of getting an STI or think you may have been at risk of HIV and require post-exposure prophylaxis (PEPSE), please contact us. Local clinics
All local clinics are currently closed except Whitburn in West Lothian. There is no walk in service and appointments are only made for urgent cases following a phone consultation. To get a call back appointment please contact us. The clinic is located at 2 Weavers Lane, Whitburn EH47 0SD.
Condoms
Most c:card locations are closed, but we are still sending condoms out by post. Complete the form online here and the condoms will be put in the post the next working day.
Gynaecology, menopause, PMS, complex contraception, psychosexual therapy.
We are offering a significantly reduced service. If you have been referred to this service you will remain on the waiting list until we are able to offer you an appointment. We will be triaging all referrals and if your problem needs urgent assessment then we will contact you to make a plan. You may find information on our contraception page and media library helpful.
Genital skins problems
We are unable to offer routine review appointments for the Chalmers Genital skin clinic. If you have been referred to this service you will have been contacted to ask you get back in touch after a period of time. If your referral was deemed urgent we will be contacting you with an appointment.
Vasectomy
Vasectomy Operations have been cancelled until further notice. If you are already on the list for a vasectomy assessment appointment you may be contacted to do this via telephone consultation. The postal testing of samples post vasectomy is continuing and results will be being checked and actioned. If you have problems post vasectomy operation please contact your GP in the first instance.
WISHES
WISHES walk in services are closed for now but you can still access support and advice from our staff through the WISHES phone number 0776988711 or email address wishes@nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk. If you text or email us we will call you back.
Young People (Healthy Respect +)
Due to current covid restrictions the Healthy Respect + drop-in service at Chalmers is not currently running (click here for more information). This means young people cannot walk in to Chalmers to be seen without speaking to us on the phone first. You can book a ‘call back’ appointment online or you can call us on 0131 536 1070 between 10am and 12.30 and 1pm and 3pm Monday to Friday (contact us). From Monday 1st June you can also join our NearMe drop-in clinic. NearMe is a system that allows video consultations so you can speak to a nurse face to face and not wait for a call back. This service will run on a Monday 2-4pm and on a Thursday 2-4pm. Click here for more information.
