Staff at NHS 24 and A&E departments can deal with urgent problems and can contact members of our team for advice if required. In the case of a medical emergency call 999.
When to get urgent help
If our sexual health clinics are closed and you cannot wait until the next clinic opens, you should seek urgent medical advice.
This may apply if:
- You think you may have been exposed to HIV within the last 72 hours.
- You have experienced a sexual assault.
- You are living with HIV and feel seriously unwell.
What to do
Call NHS 24 on 111 or go to your nearest Accident and Emergency (A&E) department.
If you think you may have been exposed to HIV, seek help as soon as possible. PEP is most effective when started as soon as possible and must be started within 72 hours of exposure.
